Finance Committee proposed a new Special Fund for Migrant and Border Concerns. Pima Meeting, as a result of its work on immigrant and border issues, has begun to receive donations earmarked for immigrant or border work, in addition to donations earmarked for immigrant bonds. The Special Fund provides a way to accept those donations and honor the wishes of the donors. This fund is broader than the Immigrant Bond Special Fund and would take the place of the Fund currently under consideration concerning Rob and Sarah’s work.
The fund would receive and spend donations and grants specifically for work on migrant and border concerns. The opening amount would be $500 and the fund would have no limit.
The Migrant Action Committee (MAC) would make decisions about fund expenditures. The Treasurer, working closely with MAC, would track the income and expenses and report these on a regular basis to Pima Meeting. Some examples of expenditures that could come from the fund are donations to outside organizations directly serving migrants, special projects of Pima Meeting, and educational forums related to border issues. The fund would be separate from MAC’s regular budget line. Fund monies would be expected to be spent in a timely manner rather than allowed to accumulate.
Meeting accepted the report and special fund proposal and approved the creation of the Special Fund for Migrant and Border Concerns as drafted.
